Prime Minister Receives Quintet Mechanism Delegation to Discuss Ways to Support Peace and Sudanese Dialogue
His Excellency Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris received today the delegation of the Quintet Mechanism led by Mr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Head of the Quintet Mechanism Forum. The delegation was accompanied by Mr. Pekka Haavisto, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan; Ambassador Annette Weber, EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa; Mr. Lawrence Korbandy, IGAD Envoy for Sudan; and Ambassador Zaid Al-Sabban, Director of the Sudan and Horn of Africa Department at the Arab League. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Khalid Al-Aisir, Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism; Dr. Al-Hussein Al-Siddiq Al-Hafian, Special Representative of the Prime Minister; Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Lieutenant General Abbas Mohamed Bakhit, Deputy Director of the General Intelligence Service; Ambassador Al-Hafiz Issa, Deputy Head of the Sudanese Mission to Ethiopia; and Ambassador Khalid Al-Khair, Director of the African Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the visiting delegation, emphasizing the importance of the visit, which he described as historic given the timing and circumstances. His Excellency also stressed that there are false narratives being promoted by the media regarding the ongoing war in Sudan, including baseless allegations regarding the use of chemical weapons, the moral equivalence drawn between the Armed Forces and the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the claim of Islamist control over the government, and the narrative that the war is merely between two generals. The Prime Minister refuted these allegations, which have been promoted by the militia and its supporters. The Prime Minister affirmed the importance of the mechanism and its appreciated efforts in supporting Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, reviewing the steps taken by the government to ensure the success of the upcoming dialogue. He stated that the dialogue belongs to the Sudanese people and that the government is committed to implementing its outcomes regardless of the cost. He also expressed the government's readiness to cooperate with the Quintet Mechanism to achieve peace and exit the current crisis. For their part, the head and members of the Quintet Mechanism expressed their gratitude to the government for the reception and hospitality, affirming their readiness to work towards the success of the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue to achieve peace and stability in Sudan. They also reaffirmed their support for Sudan's unity and sovereignty and their rejection of any parallel entities.
