Atbara: September 29, 2026: Radio Dabanga. A total of 3,740 displaced families, most of whom are from Darfur, are facing a crisis in food, water, sanitation, shelter, and health services at Al-Nahda camp in Atbara Locality, River Nile State, in addition to the loss of identification documents. The camp recently received nearly 200 families arriving from North Darfur who have not yet found sufficient tents for shelter, at a time when large numbers of the old tents have worn out, forcing some families to share a single tent. During his visit to the camp on Tuesday, Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Mutasim Ahmed Saleh directed the urgent provision of 500 tents, with priority given to newly arrived families, and to expedite their registration to include them in services and aid. The minister appealed to national institutions, organizations, and partners to contribute to the provision of tents and shelter supplies so that we can together bridge the current gap. In this context, the minister ordered the dispatch of urgent food supplies, the provision of water jerrycans and tanks, mats, and blankets, the construction of additional latrines and the maintenance of existing ones, as well as the provision of two solar-powered mills to address the problem of grain milling without relying on fuel. After listening to the families regarding the issue of missing identification documents, the minister confirmed that obtaining replacement documents will be done without fees, according to previous arrangements with the Ministries of Interior and Finance, in addition to sending a Civil Registry team to the camp. He said he would also work with the competent authorities to find a solution for hundreds of children in the camp who are out of school, ensuring their return to education so that displacement does not cause them to lose years of their future. On the health front, the minister directed the construction of an additional health center within the camp, the extension of the current center's working hours until 7:00 PM, the provision of essential medicines—especially for those with chronic diseases—and the organization of a medical day that includes an eye clinic.
