Cairo: October 4, 2026 - Radio Dabanga. The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arrived in the Egyptian city of El Alamein at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to participate in a consultative summit including the leaders of Sudan, Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia to enhance coordination and develop peace and stability efforts in the region. The summit comes as fighting intensifies in Ethiopia and the Ethiopian army controls vast areas of the Tigray region, alongside the diplomatic crisis between Ethiopia and Eritrea, which has manifested in the severance of diplomatic relations and the expulsion of diplomats, and the diplomatic crisis between Egypt and Ethiopia, which included accusations and the expulsion of diplomats. Meeting between el-Sisi and al-Burhan: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of Sudan, on Sunday in New Alamein City, on the sidelines of the eighth African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting. The official spokesman for the Presidency stated that the meeting addressed the developments in Sudan, where the Egyptian President affirmed Egypt's firm stance in support of the Sudanese people, and its commitment to preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan and the unity of its national institutions. He also stressed that Egypt will continue to exert all efforts at both the regional and international levels to push for a political solution to the crisis, contribute to ending the war, and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people, enabling Sudan to restore its security and stability and move toward reconstruction and development. Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the official spokesman, added that the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt's positions supporting Sudan, confirming that they embody the uniqueness of the historical and fraternal relations that unite the two brotherly peoples, and valuing the political and humanitarian support provided by Egypt to Sudan, in addition to its gracious hosting of large numbers of Sudanese who were forced to leave their country due to the war. He also emphasized the importance of not equating the legitimate Sudanese state institutions with rebel militias or parallel entities, valuing the clear and firm Egyptian position in this regard. The official spokesman stated that the discussions also addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Sudan, as the President affirmed Egypt's keenness to continue providing support to the brothers in Sudan in various fields and to enhance bilateral cooperation frameworks to achieve common interests and meet the aspirations of the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples toward development and prosperity.
