Khartoum – Port Sudan: October 12, 2026 – Radio Dabanga The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed the death of two Egyptian truck drivers and the injury of a third, following a shooting by a gunman in Khartoum on Monday. The ministry stated that the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, instructed the Egyptian Ambassador to make urgent contact with Sudanese authorities to investigate the circumstances of the incident, ensure the well-being of the injured citizen, and take all necessary measures to transport the bodies home as soon as possible. For his part, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Nader Zaki, said that the Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan, Yasser Sorour, made immediate contact with Sudanese authorities, who reported that they were able to apprehend the perpetrator of the crime. The Egyptian Ambassador also met with the Governor of Khartoum, who arrived specifically to offer condolences and check on the health of the injured citizen. The medical staff attending to his condition confirmed that he requires urgent surgery. Sources had confirmed the killing of two Egyptian truck drivers at the local market as a result of gunfire by a Sudanese gunman. The incident comes in the wake of the killing of dozens of Sudanese artisanal miners in airstrikes carried out by Egyptian aircraft on the Sudanese-Egyptian border on Saturday. According to sources close to the police, the suspect (A. A.), 23, affiliated with a force supporting the army, was arrested in possession of a Kalashnikov rifle he used in the shooting that claimed the lives of two individuals and injured a third, all of Egyptian nationality, while a Sudanese regular soldier was wounded during an exchange of fire between the suspect and the force attempting to arrest him. According to information, the suspect stated in his preliminary testimony that he committed the crime in retaliation for his brother, who lost his life with the miners in the North Valley incident. The incident occurred around 2:00 PM at the local market near the Export Development Bank. Egyptian Army Statement The Egyptian Armed Forces acknowledged carrying out what it described as the third phase of the expanded campaign to combat illegal gold mining in the Eastern Desert. It explained in a statement that law enforcement elements from the armed forces and civil police continue to implement this phase after dropping warning leaflets on those it described as criminal elements, in order to enforce full sovereignty within Egyptian state borders and protect its capabilities and national wealth. The Egyptian Armed Forces emphasized the depth of the ties that unite the Egyptian and Sudanese nations on both political and popular levels, noting that the peaceful coexistence enjoyed by millions of Sudanese on Egyptian soil is the best witness to that. The armed forces called on the sons of the Nile Valley to obtain information from its official sources and not to be led by what it described as misleading rumors and foreign agendas aimed at destabilizing the fraternal relations between the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples. Humanitarian Movement Additionally, Red Sea State witnessed broad humanitarian movement, represented by vehicles moving toward areas adjacent to the event sites, transporting surviving miners and transferring the wounded to Port Sudan. The Port Sudan Resistance Committees also announced the implementation of a blood donation campaign for the benefit of the injured.
