Report - October 13, 2026 - Radio Dabanga. In a prominent diplomatic and political move aimed at breaking the deadlock in the Sudanese crisis, a high-level delegation representing anti-war political and civil forces—who are not aligned with the conflicting parties—held a meeting described as constructive and productive with the Quintet Mechanism at the African Union headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. This meeting comes at a critical time to discuss ways and mechanisms to end the ongoing fighting and launch a genuine peace process based on the pure national leadership and ownership of the Sudanese people. The Sudanese delegation, led by Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, included a wide and diverse composition reflecting a broad spectrum of society. Participants included representatives from the Sudanese Declaration of Principles forces, the Popular Congress Party, along with an active group of civil society organizations, feminist and youth networks, and independent public figures. This provides this movement with a broad civil representative base that seeks to voice the concerns of the silent majority affected by the ravages of war. The discussions and demands put forward by the delegation focused on the top priority of reaching an urgent, immediate, and unconditional humanitarian truce. This truce aims to provide necessary protection for defenseless civilians, ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to those affected in various regions of Sudan, and prepare solid ground for the launch of a peace process. An Integrated Vision: In this context, the delegation presented an integrated vision for the peace process based on three main, interconnected tracks: starting with the urgent humanitarian response, moving through a comprehensive ceasefire, and reaching a deep political dialogue that addresses the structural roots of the Sudanese crisis and establishes a just and sustainable peace that culminates in a genuine democratic civil transition. The civil delegation also clearly emphasized the necessity for Sudanese civil forces to play a leading role in designing and leading the peace process, according to precise and fair standards that prevent any party from dominating or monopolizing the political process. They strictly emphasized the exclusion of the National Congress Party, its Islamic Movement, and all their political and organizational fronts from the future landscape, as they are considered a main cause of the crisis. Coordination of Mediation Efforts: Regionally and internationally, the assembled forces called for the importance of unifying and coordinating the efforts of various mediations by establishing a unified regional and international umbrella that includes the Quartet, the Quintet, and the Troika. The delegation linked the success of the peace process to the imposition of strict and deterrent measures against the parties to the war and those obstructing the settlement. This includes expanding the scope of the arms embargo to cover all Sudanese territory to stop any foreign support fueling the conflict, drying up the funding sources of the war machine, and holding those responsible for atrocities and violations accountable. The delegation also reiterated its categorical rejection of any attempts to legitimize the de facto authorities imposed by the reality of the war, confirming its firm commitment to the unity of Sudan's land and people. At the conclusion of the meeting, the delegation confirmed its continued tireless communication and joint work with the Quintet, the Quartet, and various regional and international parties seeking a peaceful solution. They aim to build on what was achieved in this meeting to transform diplomatic understandings into practical, tangible steps that stop the bloodshed and alleviate the great humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people, renewing their commitment to strengthen and expand the civil front against the war to achieve the goals of the glorious December Revolution in security, freedom, and peace.
