Imminent Meeting to Coordinate Peace Initiatives and Efforts Regarding Sudan in Geneva

Amsterdam – October 14, 2026 – Radio Dabanga: The United Nations has announced the imminent launch of the "Sixth Consultative Meeting on Enhancing the Coordination of Peace Initiatives and Efforts in Sudan," which the UN will co-host with Switzerland in the Swiss capital, Geneva. The meeting will include member states sponsoring major initiatives, members of the Quartet and Quintet groups, neighboring countries, as well as permanent members of the Security Council. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric confirmed at the daily press briefing yesterday, Tuesday, that the coming weeks will see further consultations between the Quintet committee and Sudanese stakeholders in the political arena. The Quintet committee includes the United Nations, the European Union, the League of Arab States, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the African Union. Dujarric noted a meeting held by the Quintet on Monday in Addis Ababa with a wide range of anti-war forces, including the group known as the "Sumoud" coalition. He stated that these consultations are taking place within the framework of the Quintet's ongoing engagement with a broad political spectrum of Sudanese civil and political parties, with the aim of supporting preparations for an inclusive, Sudanese-led, and Sudanese-owned political dialogue, and as a precursor to a future political process. The fifth consultative meeting to coordinate initiatives and peace efforts in Sudan was held last January.
