Displaced Persons Coordination: 927 Dengue Fever Cases in Tawila Amidst Medication Shortages
Tawila – Sunday, October 18, 2026: Radio Dabanga - The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees expressed its deep concern regarding the accelerating deterioration of health and humanitarian conditions in the Tawila area. The cumulative number of dengue fever cases reached 927 between September and October 16, according to its field sources monitoring health conditions in coordination with medical centers operating in the area. The official spokesperson for the Coordination, Adam Regal, told Radio Dabanga that the crisis is worsening as some health centers have ceased operations, and there is a shortage of medicines and medical supplies in facilities still providing services, alongside an increase in cases and mounting pressure on the Tawila Rural Hospital. He added: 'These conditions coincide with the spread of malaria, diarrhea, and malnutrition, especially among children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, amid the consequences of displacement, drought, hunger, poverty, and food insecurity.' Regal warned that the continued lack of medicine, the disruption of health facilities, and the weak humanitarian response could lead to worsening conditions and higher risks of health complications, particularly among the most vulnerable groups. Call for Provision of Medicines: Furthermore, the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees, in a statement reviewed by Radio Dabanga, called on humanitarian and health organizations, United Nations agencies, and relevant authorities to take immediate action to provide medicines and medical supplies, support the Tawila Rural Hospital, restart non-operational health centers, strengthen efforts to combat dengue fever and malaria, and provide clean drinking water, food, and therapeutic nutrition. This must be accompanied by ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to displaced persons and host communities in Darfur, Kordofan, and the Blue Nile without delay. The Coordination emphasized that protecting the lives and dignity of civilians is a humanitarian responsibility that cannot be delayed, and that addressing these crises requires an urgent and coordinated response that prioritizes the lives and basic needs of those affected above all else.
