A Message to the Inbox of... President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan
An open letter from writer Hassan Al-Basir to the President of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, urging him to re-evaluate the strategic landscape with a calm perspective, away from emotional reactions, and to rely on domestic unity and the cohesion of state institutions rather than yielding to external pressures.

✍️ By: Hassan Al-Basir. ▪️ Mr. President, what is happening today should not be reduced to a matter of an entry visa or taking a podium at the UN. The issue is much deeper, as it relates to the essence of national sovereignty, the sources from which Sudan derives its positions, and the foundations upon which it builds its alliances and determines its priorities in a world governed by interests and power calculations. Recent developments, foremost among them the American position, call for you and your surrounding team to re-read the landscape with a calm, strategic eye, away from impulses and knee-jerk reactions. Political experience confirms that major powers act according to their changing interests and calculations, and that international relations are not built on permanent friendships as much as they are based on the intersection of interests. ▪️ Therefore, the most stable bet remains within Sudan itself: the unity of ranks, the cohesion of state institutions, and enhancing their ability to protect sovereignty and national interests. The American position, regardless of its background or calculations, should not push Sudan to succumb to pressures or make concessions that affect its principles and its right to defend its existence and interests. What is required is not to engage in a war of words with the outside world, nor to deal with developments through the logic of emotional defiance, but rather to manage the situation with a cool head and precise calculation. This involves employing the political, diplomatic, legal, and military tools of the state in an integrated manner, while remaining prepared for various regional and international scenarios. ▪️ Mr. President, the world does not manage its crises with wishes, and states do not protect their interests with rhetoric alone. It is a strategic error for a visa or an international platform to become an end that is prioritized over the essence of the national cause. International forums are a means to serve Sudan's interests, not a substitute for national will or a justification for abandoning its core principles. ▪️ The message that must reach both the domestic and international spheres is that Sudan is too great to be reduced to the will of a foreign capital, and that its future can only be drawn by the will of its people and its state institutions. International relations are shifting interests, while the national interest must remain the constant compass. Therefore, Mr. President, do not let any external umbrella replace the national one, and do not bet on protection coming from abroad more than you bet on the unity of Sudan, the strength of its institutions, and the will of its people. Whoever places their fate in the hands of others may discover, at the critical moment, that true protection begins from within.
