Suicide drones target El-Obeid Olympic Stadium and cause suspension of classes at Sheikan College
El-Obeid: Monday, September 28, 2026 - Radio Dabanga - The city of El-Obeid, capital of North Kordofan State, witnessed a dawn attack on Monday by several suicide drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), targeting the city's Olympic Stadium, amidst interception attempts by the Sudanese Army's ground defenses. Eyewitnesses reported that the stadium is being used as a military headquarters for the Al-Baraa groups and the Abu Jubba army, and is located in a vital area surrounded by four residential neighborhoods and near schools and university colleges. The attack led to flames and a series of ammunition explosions throughout the night, prompting nearby citizens to evacuate their homes before returning in the morning. As authorities established a security cordon, two citizens were taken to El-Obeid Hospital with deep wounds. Following these security developments, the administration of Sheikan College issued a decision to suspend all academic activities for two weeks starting Monday, September 28, 2026, to ensure the safety of students and staff and to carry out maintenance and repairs. The college noted that limited parts of its buildings sustained material damage from scattered shrapnel, without any reported injuries. Condemnation: For its part, the General Secretariat of the North Kordofan State Government and the State Security Committee condemned in the strongest terms the RSF's targeting of El-Obeid with drones and its shelling of civilian objects and public facilities, primarily the Sports City and Sheikan College. The state government and its security committee asserted, in a statement reviewed by 'Radio Dabanga,' that targeting civilian, educational, and sports facilities represents a blatant assault on citizens and their resources, a violation of international humanitarian law, and is added to the series of violations the militia continues to commit against civilians and civilian facilities in North Kordofan State. The state government, in a statement by official spokesperson Jama'a Al-Mahdi Jama'a, pointed out that the RSF has made a habit of targeting cities and civilian facilities with drones following every advance made by the Armed Forces, in an attempt to retaliate against citizens, target security and stability, and create a state of panic among civilians. The North Kordofan State Government demanded that the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations condemn the targeting of civilian objects, fulfill their responsibilities toward protecting civilians, document these violations, and hold the perpetrators accountable.
