Documentation of over one hundred malnutrition cases among children in Darfur camps
Darfur: October 1, 2026: Radio Dabanga - The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees Camps in Darfur announced the documentation of more than one hundred cases of malnutrition among children, in addition to the death of at least thirty children as a result of malnutrition complications and the lack of healthcare. In the Suni area in East Jebel Marra, one hundred cases of infection were documented, while the number of cases at the Liba administrative health center reached 135, with two recorded deaths. The official spokesperson for the Coordination, Adam Regal, told Radio Dabanga that famine and food insecurity have become among the most dangerous threats facing civilians in Sudan. The war has disrupted agricultural activity, forced farmers to leave their lands, and drought along with declining production rates have contributed to increasing the severity of the food crisis. For his part, the humanitarian affairs official in the Liba administration, affiliated with the Omo district in East Jebel Marra, confirmed an outbreak of acute malnutrition among children, which led to the death of one child and the infection of 135 others, noting that the rate of infection is increasing significantly in light of the lack of healthcare. He told Radio Dabanga that the Liba center had been out of service for nearly nine months due to the lack of healthcare, but it resumed work in March and has received more than 135 cases, with new cases of the disease increasing every day.
