Central Darfur – October 7, 2026 – Radio Dabanga: The Zalingei Locality Security Committee in Central Darfur decided on Tuesday to increase the price of bread, setting the price of a 50-gram loaf at 400 Sudanese pounds. The committee justified the decision by citing the rising costs of flour and bread production inputs in the region. For its part, the Central Darfur office of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) demanded that the Zalingei locality administration immediately halt the implementation of this decision, calling for no decisions regarding bread weights and specifications to be issued or executed without coordination with the organization. Investigation Committee: The Acting Head of the Civil Authority for Central Darfur State, Dr. Talha Al-Tayeb Abdel Rahman, issued a decision on Tuesday to form a fact-finding committee regarding the incidents in the East Nile area and the Kundarni market. The formation of the committee follows the reported killing of a mayor from the East Nile area—who was also an officer in the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—along with three other RSF personnel, following a clash that began over a dispute involving a vehicle before escalating into a tribal conflict. The committee is chaired by the Head of the Legal Administration and includes representatives from the RSF, the Public Prosecution, the Police, Intelligence, and the Native Administration. The committee is tasked with investigating the causes of the incidents, conducting thorough inquiries with the concerned parties and relevant community components, and coordinating with the Native Administration and community leaders to identify the roots of the conflict. The committee is authorized to seek assistance from whomever it deems appropriate and must submit its report to the Head of the Civil Administration upon completion.
