Ghubaysh – El Nahud: October 11, 2026 – Radio Dabanga The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed its grave concern regarding reports of a deadly drone strike on Friday that targeted a building housing displaced families in the city of El Nahud, West Kordofan State. Reports indicated that at least 12 civilians, including women and children, were killed and eight others injured. In a statement viewed by “Radio Dabanga,” the office explained that reports also stated five civilians, including three children, were killed in a drone airstrike that targeted a residential neighborhood hosting displaced families in the town of Ghubaysh. The statement affirmed that the victims were people who had already been forced to flee their homes due to the conflict, only to face further violence in the places where they sought safety. The statement noted that the increasing frequency of drone airstrikes across Sudan is deeply concerning, as it exposes civilians, including displaced families, to further death, injury, and suffering. The office emphasized the necessity of respecting international humanitarian law and protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, asserting that people fleeing violence must be able to find safety rather than facing further threats to their lives. Four civilians from one family killed. For its part, the Kordofan Observatory revealed the killing of four civilians from one family, including two children, as a result of a drone strike belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces that targeted the city of Ghubaysh in West Kordofan State on Friday. According to information verified by the Observatory, the drone targeted the “Abu Ba’a” residential neighborhood, which is completely free of any military presence, resulting in the killing of four members of one family: Anwar Abakir, Abdullah Abakir, and their two children. The drone also targeted a civilian vehicle near the Ghubaysh Hospital, with no people inside or near it at the time of the bombing. The city of Ghubaysh is considered a densely populated area that has not witnessed fighting, and it hosts thousands of displaced persons fleeing conflict zones in the Kordofan and Darfur regions. Targeting residential areas and putting civilians at risk exacerbates fear and panic among them and induces the risk of further displacement. The Observatory indicated that it also verified a drone attack that targeted, on Thursday, the El Nahud locality building, which was being used to shelter a number of displaced persons, resulting in the death of 12 people and the injury of 8 others, most of whom were women and children. The Kordofan Observatory confirms that targeting civilians and civilian objects and endangering the lives of displaced persons through military attacks constitutes a violation of the rules of international humanitarian law. These acts may amount to war crimes, and it stresses the need to respect the principles of distinction and proportionality and to take the necessary precautions to protect civilians at all times.
