Tawila – October 12, 2026 – Radio Dabanga The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees announced the registration of more than 500 cases of dengue fever in Tawila locality, North Darfur state. The Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdul Wahid, controls the Tawila area and large parts of Jebel Marra. Adam Regal, spokesperson for the Coordination, pointed to concerns regarding the widening spread of the disease amid the difficult humanitarian and health conditions experienced by displaced persons. He emphasized that the emergence of these cases requires urgent health intervention, especially given the limited medical services and therapeutic resources, warning of additional risks threatening the lives of the displaced, particularly children, women, and the elderly, as they are the groups most vulnerable to health complications. He called for strengthening epidemiological surveillance, providing tests, medicines, and medical supplies, securing clean water, improving environmental sanitation services, controlling mosquitoes that transmit the disease, and intensifying health awareness among affected communities. The General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees appealed to health authorities, humanitarian organizations, and relevant international bodies to act urgently to assess the situation on the ground, verify the number of cases, and provide the necessary medical and preventive response, as well as support health facilities and frontline workers. It urged not to underestimate the severity of these indicators and stressed the necessity of ensuring that health services reach the displaced without delay, affirming that protecting civilian lives is an urgent humanitarian responsibility, and that limited resources or delayed interventions should not be allowed to exacerbate suffering.
