Eastern Chad – October 12, 2026 – Radio Dabanga: A Sudanese refugee youth was killed in the Adre camp in eastern Chad yesterday, Sunday, while refugees reported to Radio Dabanga that Chadian police are continuing their investigations to identify the perpetrators. The Platform of Civil Societies for Sudanese Refugees in Adre camp in eastern Chad (known by the acronym PAGES) stated in a statement that the region is witnessing an increase in incidents of armed robbery, intimidation of peaceful citizens, and the targeting, killing, and daylight robbery of innocent citizens on public roads. The platform, in the statement viewed by Radio Dabanga, called on all relevant official, security, and military authorities in the country, as well as humanitarian partners and civil society components in Asoungha Department, to intervene urgently to resolve the unfortunate and escalating security developments recently taking place within the department. The platform called on citizens and refugees in Asoungha Department to remain fully vigilant, unite, and cooperate completely with security agencies by reporting any suspicious movements or criminal elements immediately to protect lives and property. Fire and demolition of homes in Adre camp. In a related context, a massive fire broke out on Sunday in the Adre camp for Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad, resulting in the destruction of a large number of temporary shelters for refugees, who have been left in the open. One refugee told Radio Dabanga that the fire crisis was exacerbated by strong winds and the lack of fire trucks in the area. Meanwhile, Sudanese refugees residing west of the Adre Secondary School had their temporary homes demolished, causing them to be displaced and left in the open without shelter.
