Jebel Marra – 12 October 2026 – Dabanga Radio. The Civil Authority in areas controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement (led by Abdul Wahid Mohammed al-Nur) revealed the recording of 1,852 deaths due to severe malnutrition among children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly, indicating that the areas under its control are witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe due to the constant influx of displaced persons. Mujeeb al-Rahman al-Zubair, head of the Civil Authority, told Dabanga Radio that the region is witnessing a widespread famine and an outbreak of malnutrition among children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly, noting that deaths are being recorded daily due to hunger and food shortages. Al-Zubair pointed to the almost complete absence of health and basic service systems, with most health centers out of service due to a severe shortage of medicine and medical personnel. He pointed to a severe shortage of clean water sources, which has led to the spread of diseases and epidemics and the deterioration of environmental sanitation, noting the emergence of imminent epidemics such as cholera, viral hepatitis, and malaria. Students dropping out of school. Regarding the education sector, Mujeeb al-Rahman al-Zubair said that the number of displaced children dropping out of school annually is estimated at about 2,631 children, due to difficult living conditions and the inability of families to pay fees and provide school supplies. He pointed to the scarcity of humanitarian support; there are only 21 humanitarian organizations working in the region, and they only cover a small portion of the needs of the displaced due to severe funding and resource shortages, in addition to not covering all liberated territories. He stressed that the large influx of displaced persons has caused enormous pressure on the housing and water resources sectors. Media campaign to confront famine. Al-Zubair explained that they have launched a media campaign to reflect the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe and famine that has struck the regions of Jebel Marra, Tawila, and Ain Siro; with the aim of raising awareness and early warning, clarifying the scale of the crisis with figures and data, and pressuring organizations to intervene quickly to protect the most vulnerable groups (children, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly). Demands and reforms. The head of the Civil Authority called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide regular and sufficient food supplies to families, provide shelter materials, clean drinking water, and sanitation services, in addition to establishing medical centers, providing essential medicines, and setting up schools to ensure the continuation of children's education. Mujeeb al-Rahman al-Zubair called for providing agricultural alternatives through water harvesting management, building storage dams, providing improved seeds, and training the displaced in trades and skills that do not rely on rainwater such as sewing, handicrafts, and livestock and poultry farming to empower local communities. He also renewed the call to stop the war immediately as it is the main cause of the deteriorating situation, to activate the principles of international humanitarian law by opening safe corridors for the delivery of aid, as well as securing aid convoys and holding anyone who obstructs their arrival accountable. The spokesperson concluded his speech by calling on the international community and the United Nations to fulfill their responsibilities and implement international law to stop the humanitarian catastrophe and protect civilians.
