Tawila – 13 October 2026 – Radio Dabanga: The General Coordination for Darfur Displaced Persons and Refugees Camps confirmed that the continued influx of displaced persons to the Tawila area is exacerbating deteriorating humanitarian and living conditions, amid growing basic needs and weak humanitarian response, thereby doubling the risks facing thousands of civilians, especially women, children, and the elderly. Adam Regal, official spokesperson for the General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced Persons camps, told Radio Dabanga: 'The Tawila area received 557 displaced families, comprising 2,199 individuals, between October 4 and 12, who came from various areas in North Darfur, including Dar al-Salam, Turra, Dar al-Sumayyat, and others.' This brings the total number of new arrivals in Tawila from the beginning of September to October 12, 2026, to 1,726 families, totaling 8,390 individuals, an indicator reflecting the widening scale of the humanitarian crisis and the continuation of waves of forced displacement. He added: 'Information received indicates that children are facing alarming health and nutritional conditions, including wasting and underweight issues associated with increasing cases of malnutrition, amid food scarcity and a lack of humanitarian aid.' He noted that these risks are compounded by overcrowding and increasing pressure on health services, water, and environmental sanitation, in conjunction with reports of the spread of dengue fever, malaria, typhoid, acute diarrhea, and other diseases, which necessitates urgent health intervention to prevent the expansion of suffering, especially among children and the most vulnerable groups.
