Dakar: October 13, 2026: Radio Dabanga - The 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights commenced yesterday, Monday, in the Senegalese capital, Dakar. Representatives from Sudanese human rights organizations participated in the proceedings with the aim of shedding light on the human rights situation in Sudan and conveying the suffering of civilians to the relevant African mechanisms concerned with protection, accountability, and the pursuit of justice. Mohamed Ahmed Al-Zubair Al-Dana'u, a member of the International Coalition for Human Rights delegation participating in the session, stated that the delegation includes representatives from the Sudanese Rural Community Organization and the International Coalition for Human Rights. This is part of the efforts of Sudanese organizations to convey the voices of victims and present the violations that civilians in the country are being subjected to before regional and international human rights institutions. Al-Dana'u explained to Radio Dabanga that the session is discussing a number of issues related to human rights conditions on the African continent, including the review of reports from countries and human rights organizations, violations and fundamental freedoms, civilian protection, and the promotion of justice and accountability, as well as the role of civil society organizations in monitoring and documenting violations and demanding the accountability of those responsible. He indicated that the Sudanese delegation intends to hold meetings with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights and a number of African human rights organizations, in addition to side meetings with representatives of African countries, with the goal of presenting the human rights situation in Sudan and highlighting the violations suffered by civilians, and the legal and moral responsibilities these impose to protect victims and ensure accountability. Al-Dana'u emphasized that the delegation seeks to strengthen African solidarity with the Sudanese people and mobilize support for efforts aimed at halting violations, preventing impunity, and expanding cooperation with African mechanisms and human rights organizations to defend human rights and uphold the dignity of the Sudanese people. He stressed the importance of keeping the Sudanese file present in regional and international human rights forums, stating that participation is not limited to attending meetings, but represents an effort to convey the voices of victims, confront silence, and work towards transforming human rights commitments into practical steps that achieve protection, justice, and fairness.
