Federal Health Ministry: Increase in Appendicitis Cases in Sennar
Khartoum – October 14, 2026 – Radio Dabanga. The Federal Ministry of Health confirmed an increase in appendicitis cases in Sennar State, particularly among women. It also noted the emergence of a new cholera case in Al-Laeit locality, North Darfur State, while cases of the epidemic have decreased in other states. During the weekly meeting of the Federal Emergency Operations Center in Khartoum on Tuesday, the ministry stated that new dengue fever cases have appeared in Tendelti locality, White Nile State, while the highest infection rates were recorded in Sennar State (Sennar and Singa cities). The report indicated a decrease in dengue fever cases in Sennar State over the past week. The technical committee report on hemorrhagic fevers pointed out that the states most affected by dengue fever are Sennar (Sennar and Singa localities), Blue Nile State (Ad-Damazin locality), and Khartoum State (East Nile, Karari, Jebel Awliya, Ombada, and Khartoum localities). Key preparedness and response activities implemented to combat dengue fever include mosquito control in the Blue Nile, Khartoum, and Sennar states, in addition to household inspections for larvae and residual spraying. Decrease in Malaria cases: The report confirmed a general decrease in malaria cases, especially in Sennar State compared to previous weeks, and also noted a decline in hepatitis cases. The report further highlighted a reduction in malaria cases in Khartoum State compared to the previous year, noting the provision of (20) vehicles to all states. Dr. Montaser directed civil society organizations and relevant bodies to activate household inspections in the cities of Sennar, Al-Suki, and Singa to eradicate malaria and fevers. 8 States Affected by Autumn: The technical committee for autumn and cholera emergencies explained that (8) states have been affected by the autumn season, with White Nile State (Rabak locality) being the most affected in the past week. Regarding key preparedness and response activities for Ebola, the operations center confirmed daily monitoring of the global Ebola situation, noting that zero-reports were received from the Khartoum, Red Sea, and White Nile sectors. It also confirmed the distribution of updated bulletins to the air transport administration and directed staff at targeted points of entry to conduct visual screenings for arrivals from countries that have recorded Ebola cases (such as Kenya and Uganda).
