Amsterdam – October 22, 2026 – Radio Dabanga. Drone attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces have continued to impact large parts of the country over the past two days, including Khartoum, River Nile, South and West Kordofan, and East, South, and North Darfur. The Al-Jazeera Center for Human Rights announced on Thursday that three civilians were killed and a fourth was critically injured after the car they were traveling in was targeted by a drone in the Saydon area of River Nile State. The Center cited local sources stating that a drone—believed to belong to the Rapid Support Forces—targeted the vehicle while it was in the area, killing three passengers and injuring a fourth, who was transported for treatment. Meanwhile, at least two people were killed in a drone attack on fuel stations in Kalogi, South Kordofan, on Wednesday. In East Darfur, the Abu Jabra area was targeted by a drone on Thursday, causing flames and smoke to rise, though Radio Dabanga could not verify the number of casualties or the extent of the damage. Sources also reported attacks on El Fasher, Ed Daein, and Babanusa. Nyala was also subjected to a new drone attack on Wednesday evening, while the Gathering of Sudan Liberation Forces, led by Al-Tahir Hajar, condemned the targeting of the home of the movement's Chief of Staff, Ahmed Abdullah Bashir (Abu Tonga), with a guided missile last Monday, which resulted in the death of his wife, two daughters, and two of his guards. In West Kordofan, the Foundation Alliance stated that the Armed Forces targeted the Al-Adiyah and Abu Zabad areas on Wednesday, leading to the death of 16 civilians in Al-Adiyah, including two women, and the death of 5 people in Abu Zabad, including a child. Meanwhile, military sources said the Armed Forces shot down a drone in Al-Bagair, Gezira State. Regarding movements in the Amiet market and the Abyei area, the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) reported that the death toll from Monday’s drone attack rose to at least 80, with 27 others receiving treatment from UN staff. Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, said the mission continues to verify the casualties, noting that people remain missing. He explained that UNISFA extinguished large fires that broke out following attacks on the Amiet and Todach markets, and peacekeepers continue to evacuate the wounded and provide medical assistance. UN mine action staff are assessing the affected areas for any unexploded ordnance. He confirmed that the mission has doubled its patrols in the affected areas to help deter further violence and is engaging with community leaders to encourage restraint and prevent acts of retaliation. UNISFA is also engaging with the governments of Sudan and South Sudan and other relevant parties to support de-escalation. He called on both governments to take all possible steps to prevent further attacks and maintain the demilitarized status of Abyei, while continuing dialogue through existing mechanisms, including the joint political and security meeting scheduled to be held in Khartoum. Condemnations and calls to protect civilians. The Al-Jazeera Center for Human Rights condemned the targeting of civilians, stating that such attacks are increasingly reaching residential areas and civilian gatherings, causing casualties far from combat zones. The Center expressed concern over the rising number of civilian deaths due to drone attacks carried out by the parties to the conflict, noting that dozens of civilians have been killed in various parts of Sudan during October. It called on the United Nations, the African Union, and international and humanitarian organizations to intervene to stop attacks on civilians and protect them from the airstrikes witnessed across different parts of the country.
