Amsterdam: September 30, 2026: Radio Dabanga - The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, held a phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during which Sudan's solidarity with the Kingdom was affirmed, along with Riyadh's commitment to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of Sudan. This communication coincided with an official visit by Emirati Defense Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, at the invitation of his Saudi counterpart, Prince Khalid bin Salman, prompting analytical interpretations regarding the extent to which these moves intersect and their implications for the Sudanese and regional crises. No direct coordination. Political analyst Dr. Mohamed Torshin, in statements to Radio Dabanga, observes that there is no direct coordination between the visit and the phone call, explaining that the Sudanese leadership's communication with the Kingdom was intended to discuss bilateral relations and declare solidarity with Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks. Conversely, Mansour bin Zayed's visit falls within the framework of coordinating joint positions regarding Houthi escalation, in addition to discussing differences and conflicting viewpoints between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi concerning the Yemeni file, where Saudi Arabia supports the legitimate government while the UAE supports the Southern Transitional Council. Torshin believes that if common understandings are reached regarding Yemen, this will reflect positively on the Sudanese file, noting that Saudi-Emirati tension has pushed Riyadh to intervene effectively to prevent expansion along the Red Sea coast and in eastern Sudan to protect its strategic national security, which may push the Kingdom to play a positive role in reactivating the Jeddah platform and upholding Sudan's stability. More urgent files. On the other hand, analyst Dr. Ahmed al-Mufti agrees that there is coordination between the Saudi and Emirati positions, but he suggests that the coordination targets files more urgent for both parties, such as the Iranian and Yemeni files, without ruling out that the latest developments in the Sudanese file were touched upon during the discussions. Al-Mufti adds that al-Burhan's communication with the Saudi leadership focuses primarily on two main tracks: economic support and military assistance, both of which are files whose resolution depends entirely on the Saudi Kingdom's position and its vision for managing the coming phase.
