Police: Number of reports of missing persons has not exceeded one thousand
Amsterdam: Wednesday, September 30, 2026: Radio Dabanga - The police announced security updates and developments related to several issues, including the continued operation of the electronic platform for receiving reports of missing persons, the ongoing police aerial monitoring of borders and crossings, the installation of surveillance cameras in the streets of Khartoum, as well as the continued recovery of looted vehicles and the arrest of suspects via joint patrols comprising the Armed Forces, the Intelligence Service, and police forces. The official police spokesperson, Brigadier General Fath al-Rahman al-Tom, told Radio Dabanga that the electronic platform dedicated to receiving missing persons reports has received numerous notifications, noting that while the number has exceeded the previous figure, it has not surpassed one thousand reports of missing persons. He added that none of those reported missing have been found so far, asserting that most of the missing are being held by the Rapid Support Forces. At the same time, he confirmed that the police are continuing to investigate missing persons reports under the supervision of the Public Prosecution until procedures are completed once the missing individuals are located. Regarding border and crossing surveillance, Brigadier General Fath al-Rahman al-Tom confirmed that the police air wing continues to use drones to monitor all borders and crossings, noting that there are 8 crossings under constant monitoring via drone patrols. He added that the police air wing is currently operating in several states to provide aerial coverage of events and criminal activities. Regarding seizures, Brigadier General al-Tom said there is a very significant increase in the number of vehicles recovered after being looted and stripped of major parts within Khartoum State. He pointed out the existence of 55 collection sites for these vehicles, noting that the number of cars collected has reached 18,645. He stated, 'The chassis of these cars are being inspected by criminal evidence and traffic departments, and periodic lists are prepared and published through official platforms.' Al-Tom explained that vehicle owners communicate with the committees tasked with handing over the cars through the Prosecution and the Judiciary, and receive their vehicles once identified, confirming that work continues to collect the remaining vehicles within Khartoum State. On the other hand, the official police spokesperson said that there are ongoing campaigns via mobile patrols in every locality of Khartoum State, in addition to other patrols in all states. He added that these joint patrols—which include the Armed Forces, the Intelligence Service, and the police—work to enhance internal security, combat crime, and from time to time apprehend individuals wanted by justice, criminals, and recover looted goods. He explained that these operations have resulted in the arrest of individuals impersonating security forces and bringing them to justice. He denied the existence of offices currently operating within Khartoum State for recruitment or managing illegal activities related to recruitment for security forces, adding, 'All such offices were closed earlier in 2025.' Brigadier General al-Tom also emphasized that the plan to deploy surveillance cameras is ongoing to cover all of Khartoum State, including official cameras deployed by security apparatuses, as well as others installed by shop owners and entrepreneurs at their business locations, to enable security forces and police to identify and apprehend criminals.
