Amsterdam - October 5, 2026 - Radio Dabanga: Ambassador Wolfram Vetter, Head of the European Union Delegation in Sudan, strongly condemned the bombing of United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) trucks in South Kordofan. He explained that the WFP is transporting vital humanitarian aid—funded by various international donors, including the European Union—to the most vulnerable civilians, women, children, and the elderly, who are in dire need. He emphasized that obstructing and targeting humanitarian aid in Sudan could put vital relief operations at risk of halting. He expressed his strong support for the WFP’s call for an immediate international investigation to stop these attacks and hold perpetrators accountable. The WFP revealed yesterday, Sunday, that an aerial attack targeted two trucks contracted by the program that were transporting its food supplies in South Kordofan in the early hours of last Saturday. The airstrike resulted in the death of one of the drivers; we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Urgent measures: For its part, the Sudan Doctors Network condemned the attack carried out by Rapid Support Forces drones, which targeted trucks contracted with the UN's World Food Programme. The General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced Persons Camps in Darfur also condemned the same incident, both demanding an independent, fair, and transparent investigation to hold those involved accountable. The Sudan Doctors Network called on the United Nations and international humanitarian and human rights organizations to open an independent and transparent investigation into this attack, identify those responsible, and announce the findings to the public. They also called for urgent measures to ensure the protection of humanitarian convoys and their staff, and to hold all those involved in targeting humanitarian aid accountable, as it is a lifeline for millions of civilians affected by the war. Opening corridors: For its part, the General Coordination for Refugees and Displaced Persons Camps in Darfur demanded an independent, transparent, and urgent investigation into the incident of targeting WFP trucks, identifying those responsible, and holding everyone proven to be involved accountable. In an interview with Radio Dabanga, the coordination's spokesperson, Adam Regal, called for ensuring the protection of humanitarian workers and relief convoys, and securing humanitarian routes and paths to guarantee the continued, unhindered, and safe arrival of aid to civilians. He stressed the immediate cessation of targeting humanitarian facilities, vehicles, and personnel, and strict adherence to the rules of international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians. He emphasized that civilians and humanitarian workers are not parties to this war, and humanitarian aid is not a military target. Relief trucks carrying food, medicine, and means of survival must be fully protected and respected under international humanitarian law. Regal demanded the opening of safe humanitarian corridors and paths to allow for the delivery of food, medicine, water, and other basic needs to displaced persons and affected communities, especially in areas experiencing a severe deterioration in the humanitarian situation. He called for strengthening the urgent humanitarian response in South Kordofan, Darfur, and all areas affected by the war, and not allowing human suffering to be turned into a bargaining chip or tool in the conflict.
