Khartoum - October 11, 2026 - Radio Dabanga - The official spokesperson for the Bakery Owners Association, Issam Okasha, explained that the observed rise in bread prices in the capital, Khartoum, and the states is directly attributed to the significant increase in the prices of basic materials and bread production derivatives. In a statement to Radio Dabanga, Okasha pointed out that the price of a sack of flour rose from 87,000 to 116,000 Sudanese pounds, while the price of yeast jumped from 150,000 to 270,000 pounds, and the price of oil increased from 120,000 to 260,000 pounds. In addition, labor costs rose from 7,000 to 9,000 pounds, and the price of a sack of bags increased from 30,000 to 90,000 pounds. The spokesperson emphasized the association's full understanding of the citizens' suffering and the harsh economic conditions they are going through, stressing that bakery owners had no other choice to continue operations in light of these successive increases in input prices.
