North Darfur: Massive waves of displacement and dire humanitarian situation in Karnoi Locality. Karnoi: September 24, 2026: Radio Dabanga. The incursion and spread of Rapid Support Forces into areas of Um Baru in North Darfur state have created a state of fear and panic among the civilian population, forcing hundreds of families in those areas to flee their homes under the cover of darkness. The Emergency Response Room Council of Karnoi Locality in North Darfur stated in a statement sent to Radio Dabanga on Wednesday evening that the incursion of forces caused a new and massive wave of displacement from the affected villages towards the center of Karnoi Locality and the neighboring areas of North Darfur, with the arrival of more than 2,852 families. The emergency rooms estimated in their statement the arrival of more than 2,852 displaced families during the past two weeks, while the numbers of displaced persons continue to increase steadily into Karnoi. The rooms described the conditions of the new displaced people in Karnoi as tragic, as they have no shelter, sleeping on the ground and covering themselves with the sky in valleys, shelters, and schools after their food supplies ran out and they were unable to bring anything with them. The room reported in its statement that there is immense pressure on current drinking water sources, and that health centers are devoid of the most basic necessities and medicines. Cases of severe malnutrition: The room explained that the humanitarian situation in Karnoi was already critical and deteriorating due to drought, the failure of this year's agricultural season, the famine that has begun to strike the locality and its administrative units, the water crisis, and the lack of basic services. With the new displacement, the room says, the crisis has worsened significantly, as cases of severe malnutrition and other diseases have begun to appear among children, the elderly, and pregnant women as a result of overcrowding and the lack of clean water, at a time when health workers are operating with nearly non-existent resources. Urgent appeals: The Emergency Response Room Council of Karnoi Locality appealed in its statement to the United Nations and international and local humanitarian organizations for immediate and urgent intervention to provide emergency shelter materials, including tarpaulins, tents, blankets, and household utensils, and to provide urgent food baskets for three months. The council also appealed for the necessity of providing drinking water, water tankers, sterilization materials, and chlorination, in addition to providing medicines and therapeutic nutrition centers for children and mothers, and protection for civilians and displaced persons. The Emergency Response Room Council of Karnoi Locality confirmed in its statement its full readiness to coordinate with all parties and facilitate the arrival of aid, ensuring it reaches those who deserve it with full transparency. It added, 'The situation is worsening every hour, and our silence today means the loss of lives tomorrow.'
