Author Omar Dafallah Ahmed is a caricature artist who graduated from the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the Sudan University of Science and Technology in Khartoum in 1985, from the Department of Illustration Design. He worked as an illustrator for Al-Sibyan magazine and also worked for the Lebanese newspaper Al-Sharq. Since the beginning of the second millennium, he has consistently published political caricatures on several websites, including 'SudaneseOnline' and 'Al-Rakoba', in addition to a number of electronic newspapers, such as 'Sudanile' and 'Al-Taghyeer'. This book is the first to be published by Barcode Publishing in the field of caricature art, and it will be followed by other publications due to the concise message and dose of awareness this authentic art form offers through a satirical and intelligent visual language, in an era where events accelerate and transformations succeed one another. The book includes one hundred caricatures addressing aspects of the rule of President Omar al-Bashir, with a special focus on the topic of the International Criminal Court, which dominated the Sudanese and international political scene and became one of the most prominent issues that occupied public opinion, with dozens of books, articles, and studies published about it. This collection comes to document, from the perspective of caricature, a side of that era and the events, situations, and contradictions it was full of, as the drawing reduces into a single moment what words might need pages to explain, giving the reader an opportunity to reflect on events from a different visual perspective, and leaving them ample space for meditation and reading between the lines of the image and the accompanying caption.
