Abu Hamad – September 24, 2026 – Radio Dabanga. Citizen Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim from the city of Abu Hamad confirmed that the price of a gas cylinder has witnessed a significant rise, reaching about 105 to 115 thousand Sudanese pounds, amid a severe shortage in its availability in the markets. He stated that the living situation in the city has become unbearable and poses a real crisis for the citizens. A number of states announced an official increase today, Thursday, in cooking gas prices, ranging from 102 to 104 thousand pounds. Citizen Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim told Radio Dabanga that the fuel crisis has worsened significantly, coinciding with an acute scarcity and the unavailability of gasoline and diesel; the price of a gallon of gasoline rose to 125.5 thousand pounds, and the price of a gallon of diesel reached 40.5 thousand pounds, stressing that the region is experiencing a suffocating living distress that has burdened the residents and caused severe suffering for the citizens. Ibrahim explained that despite the reports regarding the decrease in the dollar exchange rate, the markets have witnessed exaggerated increases in the prices of various goods amid a deteriorating standard of living. He noted that the prices of consumer goods have reached high levels, as the price of a sack of sugar reached 450 thousand pounds, a gallon of peanut oil 420 thousand pounds, while the price of a gallon of Chef oil reached 265 thousand pounds, and a pound of tea 24 thousand pounds. In Atbara, the price of a gas cylinder reached 104 thousand pounds, and all shops closed their doors to citizens, according to citizen Saeed Al-Khair.
