Woman dies and a child is injured due to strong winds in Merowe, Northern Sudan

Merowe – September 24, 2026 – Radio Dabanga: A 31-year-old woman died and her ten-year-old child was injured in the Gulas area of Merowe locality, Northern State, following intermittent rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and high winds, which caused material damage on Tuesday. The director of the local Civil Defense Department, Major Abu Al-Abbas Ibnauf, explained in statements that the initial toll of the effects resulting from the rain and storms included the death of a woman after she was struck by a sheet of zinc that was blown away by the strong winds in the Gulas area (the day before yesterday). The strong winds also led to the uprooting and displacement of a number of solar panels, advertising signs, and zinc roofs in several markets, residential areas, and institutions, in addition to the falling of several trees, some of which collapsed onto power supply grid lines.
