Major road in Port Sudan closed to demand investigation into murder case
Red Sea – October 4, 2026 – Dabanga Radio. Protesters closed a major road in front of the emergency hospital in Port Sudan on Sunday morning, protesting the discovery of the dismembered body of a citizen who worked as a tea seller west of the hospital. Protesters stated they demanded that the police expedite the search for the perpetrators, declaring their refusal to collect the body from the morgue. The protesters burned tires on the road and blocked vehicles from passing, criticizing the police for failing to perform their duties in conducting the necessary investigations. They noted that the deceased had been missing for six days and pointed out that parts of his remains had not been found. Mining company closed. On the other hand, the closure of the Russian Alliance company in the Wadi Al-Ashar area in Haya locality, Red Sea State, entered its third day on Sunday, demanding the reinstatement of dismissed employees from the area and the delivery of the area's share of corporate social responsibility. Protesters said they are demanding the reinstatement of workers from the local community who were arbitrarily dismissed, in addition to handing over the area its 2 percent share of social responsibility. They indicated that they requested the Ministry of Minerals and the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company to intervene urgently and resolve the crisis, but to no avail. They explained that they have completely closed the company in their areas and halted its operations until the citizens' full demands are met. Sit-in lifted in Suakin. In another context, protesters in Suakin, Red Sea State, lifted a three-day sit-in in front of the Osman Digna Port on Friday, which was sparked by the transfer of the port director, Taha Ahmed Mukhtar. The sit-in was lifted following the arrival of a delegation from the native administration to Suakin, reaching understandings with the port director and the protesters, in addition to amending the transfer decision by appointing Taha Mukhtar as director of the Northern Port.
