Holding its fourth periodic meeting in the Kenyan capital: The Sudanese Media Forum renews its rejection of the continuation of the war and adopts a number of decisions, recommendations, and directives
Sudanese Media Forum Press Release Nairobi, October 11, 2026. The Sudanese Media Forum held its fourth periodic meeting in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, from October 9 to 11, with the attendance of representatives from the majority of its member institutions and virtual participation from members unable to attend in person. The meeting began by paying tribute to the journalists who were killed during this war and called for the disclosure of the fate of missing journalists and the release of those detained. The Sudanese Media Forum also announced its solidarity with colleague Rasha Awad in the face of death threats she has been subjected to. The Forum renewed its rejection of the continuation of the war and demanded its immediate cessation, allowing for a permanent ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need across Sudan, the return of displaced persons and refugees, and the launch of a political process that paves the way for a transitional phase and prepares for the establishment of a democratic civilian governance system where Sudanese people choose how they are governed and by whom. Over the course of three days, the meeting discussed a number of important issues related to the Forum's work, foremost among them being governance, strengthening the leadership office, bolstering the Forum's executive body, as well as the financial status of the Forum three years after its founding and its relationship with international and regional partners. The meeting adopted a number of decisions, recommendations, and directives aimed at activating the work of the Sudanese Media Forum and directing attention towards issues of future arrangements in the areas of legislation, structures, strengthening journalistic institutions, and building the capacities of journalists. The meeting also expressed thanks to the international partners (FPU, Thomson Foundation, Internews, CFI) and the international institutions and organizations that have continued to provide support to the Forum over the past years.
