Amsterdam - October 15, 2026 - Radio Dabanga: The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami (acting as Denise Brown), confirmed that the severe shortage of rainfall in certain parts of Sudan is exacerbating the ongoing humanitarian disaster already faced by millions of Sudanese. In a statement reviewed by Radio Dabanga, she said that malnutrition and disease will inevitably follow, further increasing the risks to millions of children already affected by repeated displacement. She explained that immediate life-saving food and nutritional assistance, as well as access to clean water, sanitation, and health services, are critical for people facing rainfall shortages alongside the impact of more than three years of war, particularly in Darfur and parts of Kordofan. She stated that small-scale farmers urgently need support before the winter planting season. Brown mentioned that the humanitarian community needs the necessary resources to cover the increasing acute needs. Without urgent funding, humanitarian food and nutrition stocks are expected to run out by early 2027, leaving vulnerable families without vital life-saving assistance. She emphasized that the people of Sudan cannot bear another shock.
