His Excellency Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris held a high-level meeting today in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare, on the sidelines of his participation in the 25th Summit of COMESA Heads of State and Government, with the Secretary General of COMESA, Ms. Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohiuddin Salem, the Prime Minister's Special Representative, Dr. Al-Hussein Al-Khalifa Al-Sadiq Al-Hafian, and the Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, Ali Mohammed Ali. The discussion focused primarily on the executive procedures, logistical arrangements, and necessary technical requirements for the decision to return the permanent seat of the COMESA Regional Court of Justice to the national capital, Khartoum, in the near future. This decision stands as firm evidence of the confidence in the stability of security and legal conditions in Sudan and the capacity of its institutions to efficiently host regional legal bodies. During the meeting, the Prime Minister reviewed Sudan's strategy for comprehensive economic and investment integration within the COMESA region, in conjunction with the reconstruction phase. For her part, the COMESA Secretary General reaffirmed the organization's historic commitment to supporting Sudan's sovereignty and its rejection of all forms of foreign interference in Sudan's internal affairs. It is worth noting that the COMESA Court of Justice is the primary judicial arm of the organization responsible for adjudicating trade and legal disputes among member states. The discussion of the practical arrangements for its return to Khartoum restores the Sudanese leadership position and its diplomatic and legal status on the African continent.
