Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris returned to the country this evening following his participation in the 25th Summit of Heads of State and Government of COMESA, held in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare, from October 19 to 22, 2026. He was received at Khartoum International Airport by the Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development, Engineer Mohamed Kartakila Saleh, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Ahmed Madhawi Musa. On the sidelines of the summit in Harare, the Prime Minister held extensive bilateral meetings with several leaders and heads of delegations participating in the summit. These included a meeting with the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa, during which they discussed the deep-rooted historical relations between the two countries. The Sudanese delegation expressed its gratitude and appreciation to Zimbabwe for its firm and principled positions supporting Sudan's security, stability, and territorial integrity. The Prime Minister also met with the President of the Republic of Zambia, where an agreement was reached to sign a comprehensive memorandum of understanding and an executive action matrix to boost joint trade cooperation between the two countries. He also met with Kenyan President William Ruto and the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia. Continuing his meetings on the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister met with the Egyptian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs, head of the Egyptian delegation. The meeting discussed advancing reconstruction efforts. The head of the Egyptian delegation reiterated his country's firm and continuous support for Sudan's stability, territorial integrity, and the support of its legitimate national institutions, as well as contributing to interconnection and development projects. The Prime Minister also met with the delegation of the Republic of Uganda, where they discussed mechanisms for coordinating African initiatives and efforts aimed at ending the Rapid Support Forces militia rebellion. He further met with the Secretary-General of COMESA, Chileshe Kapwepwe, where they discussed executive measures and logistical arrangements for relocating the permanent headquarters of the COMESA Regional Court to Khartoum in the near future, in addition to submitting a file of development projects related to border crossings and solar energy for immediate implementation. It is noteworthy that Sudan's participation, led by the Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation, achieved numerous gains. Sudan succeeded in securing regional positions supporting the state's sovereignty and its legitimate institutions and opened a new, expanded chapter of cooperation with COMESA bodies and financial institutions to adopt and support vital projects submitted by Sudan in the field of infrastructure. An agreement was reached to finance and develop the rehabilitation project for Sudan's border crossings, as they are a vital artery for strengthening intra-regional trade and facilitating transport and transit between member states. Sudan's proposal to support and increase solar energy projects as a first phase to secure sustainable electrical energy supplies for productive and service projects in the country was also approved. The summit approved the recommendations on the state of peace and security and officially adopted the reports of the Ministerial Committee on Peace and Security, which focused on the Sudanese landscape. This included an explicit and direct condemnation of the rebel Rapid Support Forces and regional confirmation of its commission of atrocities and grave violations against civilians and the destruction of national institutions. The summit outcomes emphasized Sudan's legitimate and full sovereign right to defend itself against the rebellion, with COMESA's full commitment to respecting Sudan's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and rejecting all foreign interference supporting the militias or undermining legitimate national state institutions. The Sudanese side at the summit included the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohiuddin Salem; the Special Representative of the Prime Minister, Dr. Al-Hussein Al-Khalifa Al-Sadiq Al-Hafian; the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Ali Mohamed Ali; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Dr. Awad Salam; and the Sudanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh. While en route to Zimbabwe, Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris visited the Republic of Rwanda, where he met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and delivered a written message from the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, regarding the development of bilateral relations to serve the interests of both countries and their peoples.
