A knight among the knights of the word and thought. May mercy and forgiveness be upon one of the champions of the word, thought, and progress in my country. Figures like Dr. Haidar, who chose to tread the rugged paths of struggle, intellect, and enlightenment, deserve memorials erected in the squares of our Sudanese homeland—not out of a belief in glorifying or venerating individuals, but as a tribute to a great journey, good intentions, and an enduring impact. This should include many of the pure patriots who defended intellect and the nation. By way of example, but not limited to, we mention our great professors (Taj al-Sir Makki, Dr. Saleh Araki Saleh, Mawlana Faisal Mohammed Ali Muslim, Mohammed Ali Mahasi, Mohammed Ibrahim Abdu 'Kabaj', Hasabu Ibrahim) and many others whose names may escape memory. These individuals and others did not surrender to a societal culture that prioritizes the private over the public and imposes specific values and standards to judge a person's success by what they have acquired (houses, land, money). A person's true value is not in what they possess, but in what they have given and continue to give throughout their life. As the famous song 'The Gallant Knight' says: 'Wealth does not matter, whether it grows or is lost, the womb that bore you will never have regrets.' These words accurately describe our great ones. Through this article, I offer a brief contemporary testimony regarding Dr. Haidar Ibrahim Ali, which reflects the nature of this great and capable personality. I find it my duty to document it out of loyalty and appreciation for the late, beloved figure. Pure coincidence and the diligent efforts of public work led me to work with him. It was a great honor to join the working team of the Sudanese Studies Center observatory, which was founded after the outbreak of the cursed April 15th war. I, along with a group of enlightened fighters, was brought together with the late professor through virtual seminars and meetings, where I sensed his greatness, humility, and dedication. He treated us, despite our inferiority in age and in the scope of intellectual and cultural contribution, with the immense humility of a true scholar. He never practiced the arrogant elitism seen in many Sudanese elites, but instead treated us as equals, as if we matched his level of knowledge and the weight of his contributions. In seminars, he was a guide and a profound diagnostician of the complexities and challenges of Sudan's political, social, and historical reality as a nation that has not moved past the crossroads of underdevelopment and crises of governance, politics, and society. I personally stood as a beneficiary, drawing from his interventions in those seminars. Dr. Haidar was a beacon of Sudan that has not and will not be extinguished; those like Dr. Haidar and his peers do not die, but rather remain present through the immense legacy they left behind. May mercy and forgiveness be upon the great Dr. Haidar, and my deepest condolences to his immediate family: his virtuous wife 'our aunt' Hayat, his children Indira and Muzaffar, and to my dear friends Bakri Jabir and Jubair Bolad, who were and remain pillars of the Sudanese Studies Center and its late founder, our great Dr. Haidar Ibrahim Ali. Finally, prayers for mercy and forgiveness once again for our great Dr. Haidar, and we pledge that we shall follow in their footsteps.
