Nyala: October 7, 2026: Radio Dabanga. The Fallata and Masalit tribes have signed a peace agreement aimed at strengthening civil peace, preventing renewed conflict, and addressing the repercussions of events that took place in Gereida Locality on September 19, which resulted in casualties on both sides. At the conclusion of a four-day conference held in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, the peace agreement was signed by Nazir Mohamed Al-Fateh Al-Samani for the Fallata and Sultan Adel Hassan Al-Malik for the Masalit. Both parties affirmed their commitment to implementing the decisions and recommendations contained in the document, and working to overcome the effects of the events and consolidate coexistence, based on the historical relationships between the two components. Representatives of both tribes emphasized that what occurred in Gereida does not represent the nature of the historical relationship between the Fallata and the Masalit, stressing the importance of protecting civilians, preventing the recurrence of conflicts, and addressing the issues behind local tensions. Full Commitment. Umda Ibrahim Nimr, a representative of the Masalit tribe, stated that the conference helped bring the members of the Fallata and Masalit tribes back together, describing the two parties as "one body." He affirmed the Masalit tribe's full commitment to the agreement reached by the Ajawid committee and the implementation of its provisions. Nimr called on the authorities to enhance the protection of citizens and provide security, stating that the presence of a force capable of protecting residents would prevent the repetition of such events and address the lapses that occurred between the parties. He added that the gates of Gereida are now open to all, confirming the Masalit's commitment to the outcomes of the Ajawid committee and working to stabilize peace and strengthen relations between the region's components. Accidental Incident. For his part, the deputy Nazir of the Fallata tribe, Al-Tahir Idris, said the tribe participated in the conference with an open heart to address the repercussions of the September 19 events in Gereida. He emphasized that the Fallata and Masalit are an integral part of each other in various aspects of life, including water, housing, markets, and the homeland. Idris confirmed the Fallata tribe's commitment to all decisions of the Ajawid committee and their implementation, noting that what happened in Gereida was an accidental incident linked to outlaws, which should not affect the nature of the relationship between the two components. He stressed that the Fallata are committed to protecting their Masalit neighbors, their property, farms, and homes, stating that "the farms of the Masalit are the farms of the Fallata, and the homes of the Masalit are the homes of the Fallata," in reference to the depth of social and economic interdependence between the two parties. Idris considered the dispute that occurred between the two components as a passing summer cloud, affirming their move forward in implementing the peace decisions and praising the efforts of the head of the Sudan Founding Alliance government, Mohamed Hassan Al-Taishi, and the peace and Ajawid committees in addressing the crisis. Conference Results. The conference outcomes included recommendations for the return of Masalit members to their previous villages and farms, as well as the return of Fallata members to their areas and farms. A committee will be formed to monitor the implementation of the peace agreement, including a mediation committee from the Mahadi, Rizeigat, and Habbaniya tribes, in addition to representatives from security and judicial agencies. The conference also recommended establishing courts in the Gereida and Sirgila localities to strengthen the rule of law and achieve justice, and empowering the police and Rapid Support Forces in both areas to perform their duties in maintaining security and protecting civilians and their property. The conference called on humanitarian and development organizations to accelerate the provision of aid and services to the conflict-affected areas, in addition to digging two water wells in Gereida and another in the Sadoun area to improve water supplies for the residents. Both parties to the peace deal demanded that the state empower security agencies, primarily the police, to fulfill their role in protecting civilians and their property and establishing security in the affected areas, thereby contributing to preventing renewed conflict and consolidating peace and social coexistence. Following the events in Gereida, the head of the Civil Administration in South Darfur State, Salah Al-Muj, had issued a decree to form a committee to work on resolving the crisis and reaching a settlement that contributes to restoring security and stability and promoting reconciliation between the two parties.
