El Geneina: October 14, 2026: Radio Dabanga The city of El Geneina in West Darfur state is witnessing a rise in bread prices, as the price of two loaves has reached 1,000 pounds in some bakeries, while other bakeries sell three small loaves for the same amount, amid complaints about the variation in loaf sizes and rising living costs. Al-Nadhir Al-Fawja, head of the For El Geneina Initiative, accused some traders of hoarding large quantities of flour and not releasing it into the markets, considering that this contributes to exacerbating the crisis, despite the availability of flour in quantities he described as enormous inside traders' warehouses in the city. Al-Fawja told Radio Dabanga that the rise in bread prices is linked to several factors, including transport costs and customs duties during the autumn season, in addition to the high prices of firewood and labor wages, according to the justifications provided by bakery owners and traders. Al-Fawja called for strengthening trade cooperation between Sudan and Chad and facilitating the movement of goods between the two countries, which would ensure the flow of flour and essential materials and help alleviate the living burdens on the citizens in El Geneina.
