Amsterdam: Wednesday, October 14, 2026: Radio Dabanga. The Egyptian Truck Drivers Union has announced an immediate and complete halt to the entry and exit of trucks to and from Sudan, until further notice. This comes as the closure of the Ashkit and Argeen crossings in the Wadi Halfa locality of the Northern State enters its third day. The union said in a statement reviewed by Radio Dabanga that it mourned the killing of two of its members in Sudan and announced the suspension of cargo transport operations until the situation stabilizes and the safety of Egyptian drivers working on this route is guaranteed. Continued closure of Ashkit and Argeen crossings. Meanwhile, the closure of the Ashkit and Argeen border crossings with Egypt has entered its third day in protest against the ban on personal imports and the ban on importing fruits and vegetables, which has caused a rise in the prices of basic commodities. A citizen from Wadi Halfa told Radio Dabanga that the residents are sticking to their position and could escalate further if the authorities do not respond, pointing out that the decision is originally intended to tighten the grip on the city of Wadi Halfa, confirming that it targets the citizen's livelihood and sources of income and exacerbates their suffering. He considered the decision to ban personal imports and fruits and vegetables not just a passing administrative measure, but a direct blow to the city's economy, its markets, and the livelihoods of its citizens. He said: As for those benefiting from these decisions, it seems they have other calculations that have nothing to do with the citizen's suffering or the interest of the local economy. He added: "What kind of logic is this that dries up markets, restricts traders, and exhausts citizens, while the doors of privileges are opened to the fat cats?" He stressed that the irony lies in the fact that every attempt to besiege the city only makes its people more cohesive. He continued: "Here are the people of Sukkot and Abri standing today in one line in defense of the local economy and their daily bread, and tomorrow the people of Mahas and Dongola will join them, so that the front of popular rejection of these policies will expand. Every time they try to divide us, they unite us more. And every time they tighten the grip on Halfa, the circle of solidarity with it widens."
